Topology of Feature Dynamics in Advected Scalar Fields

چکیده
Scalar features in fluid flow are traditionally visualized with glyphs or using direct 3D representation, and their topology changes over time are often conveyed with abstract graphs. Using these techniques, however, the spatio-temporal evolution of features undergoing topological changes is difficult to analyze. In this paper, we propose a novel approach for the visualization of the dynamics of feature topology that represents the separation of a feature spatiotemporally with respect to its volumetric contributions. To this end, we employ particle-based feature tracking to find volumetric correspondences between features at two different time steps. From this, within the initial feature, we extract boundaries around volume sections corresponding to the target features at the other time step. For the application of our approach in two-phase (liquid-gas) flows, we additionally present a feature-based corrector method to ensure phase-consistent particle trajectories. The utility of our technique is demonstrated by application to scalar physical quantities of single-phase flows, and two-phase flows where the scalar field represents the fraction of the liquid phase.

Finite temperature correlation function of two dissipative massive scalar fields: Thermofield approach
The present paper aims at investigating the manner of two dissipative massive scalar fields. Two massive scalar fields that interact with a reservoir were considered and a reservoir was modeled by continuum Klein-Gordon fields. The Lagrangian of the total system was canonically quantized and the dynamics of the system was determined using the Euler-Lagrange equation. Then, the explicit form of the...
متن کاملStrange behavior of a passive scalar in a linear velocity field.
Damping (or growth) rates of a typical realization, mean-field and high-order correlation functions of a passive scalar (e.g., a number density of particles) advected by a linear velocity fields are estimated. It is shown that all statistical moments higher than the first moment and a typical realization of a passive scalar without an external pumping decay for both laminar and random incompres...
متن کاملLocal and nonlocal advection of a passive scalar
Passive and active scalar mixing is examined in a simple one-parameter family of two-dimensional flows based on quasi-geostrophic dynamics, in which the active scalar, the quasi-geostrophic potential vorticity, is confined to a single horizontal surface so-called surface quasi-geostrophic dynamics and in which a passive scalar field is also advected by the horizontal, two-dimensional velocity f...
متن کاملCasimir effects of nano objects in fluctuating scalar and electromagnetic fields: Thermodynamic investigating
Casimir entropy is an important aspect of casimir effect and at the nanoscale is visible. In this paper, we employ the path integral method to obtain a general relation for casimir entropy and internal energy of arbitrary shaped objects in the presence of two, three and four dimension scalar fields and the electromagnetic field. For this purpose, using Lagrangian and based on a perturb...

Topological feature analysis is a powerful instrument to understand the essential structure of a dataset. For such an instrument to be useful in applications, however, it is important to provide some importance measure for the extracted features that copes with the high feature density and discriminates spurious from important structures. Although such measures have been developed for scalar an...
